Media Player Setup
For the most part, media player is able to run after installing. There are
just a couple of settings that may enhance your performance.
First, open Windows Media Player. Click on Tools, then Options
Click on Performance
The default selection is shown above. Depending on your internet connection, you may be better off to choose your connection speed. If you dial into the internet, you can try the Modem (56Kbps) or Modem (33Kbps). If you are at a school try DSL/Cable (256Kbps). After you click on OK, you will need to close Media Player for the settings to take effect. The next setting to check is on the Network tab.
Then click on Configure.
If you are not sure if you use a proxy or not, you will be safe to select the "Use proxy settings of the Web browser". After you click on OK, you will need to close Media Player for the settings to take effect. After you connect to the class, you can click on View then Statistics. Then click on the Advanced tab.
Troubleshooting
A number of other multimedia applications (such as WinAmp, RealPlayer, etc.) may affect the functionality of the streams in Windows Media Player. These programs may associate the streaming files to their application instead of allowing Windows Media Player to play the file. To prevent this from occurring, ensure that Windows Media Player is correctly associated to .asf and .asx file types. To ensure correct File Type associations, do the following: Open Windows Explorer (In most Windows Operating Systems, you can click on the "Start" button and go to "Programs" then "Accessories" then "Windows Explorer") Click on the "Tools" menu at the top and choose "Folder Options" and then choose the "File Types" tab. It will take a moment to display the list of registered file types.
Scroll down the list of registered file types and look for the "ASF" Extension. Ensure that "Windows Media Audio/Video file" is the corresponding File Type. If not, click on the "Change" button and select "Windows Media Player" from the list.
Click on "OK" to make the changes. Repeat the same procedure for the "ASX" Extension. Click on "OK" to save the changes from the Folder Options window. Close Windows Explorer. Now go back to the home page, if you’re not still there and select the class you want to view. When you select your class, you may get a dialog box asking "Do you want to play the item in Internet Explorer?" Click on NO. Windows Media Player should open up and play the class for you. Get Windows Media Player Go to http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/downloads/windows-media-player and select the version you want to match the version of windows you are running.
